Hey music fans,
In 2017, CHIRP celebrates its 10th year as a nonprofit organization, and its 7th as an online radio station. So far, we've marked the occasion in the same way we always do: by playing thousands of hours of commercial-free music (including plenty local and overlooked releases) and planning rad events including the CHIRP Record Fair and Other Delights, CHIRP Night at the Whistler, and our bi-monthly storytelling series, The First Time.
You might look at a slate like that and ask "Dang. As a volunteer organization, how do y'all manage such an ambition programming schedule?"
The answer? You.
As a nonprofit organization, CHIRP derives nearly half of its annual operating budget from the monetary support from listeners and supporters like you. Your dollars help us reach the community both over the air and in the flesh, all while mitigating the day-to-day costs associated with running a media organization.
This year, your funds will also help us achieve our biggest, best goal: making our FM debut at our new home on the dial, 107.1 FM.
After more than 18 months of fits and starts (to go along with the years of bureaucratic red tape and lobbying that preceded them), CHIRP is poised to become one of the first of the big-city low-power FM licenseholders to make its debut on terrestrial radio.
It's going to be a huge day for us and for the city, but we're going to need your help to get there.
As a DJ and blog editor for CHIRP, I try to help in my own way. This March, that means raising $500 during our semi-yearly fundraising campaign. Your money will help us keep the lights on, the music playing, and station strong.
Thanks for taking part of your day to read this, and to think about community radio. I speak for all of CHIRP's 250 volunteers when I say: I appreciate it.
Cheers,
Tyler
Please make a gift supporting our spring fund drive so we can continue to bring you great music and events! Your gift will also help us launch our broadcast at 107.1FM.
