Friends! If you're here, then you probably know that I'm a DJ and Features co-director for CHIRP Radio. But what does that really mean? A lot of things:

1) I wake up at 5am every Tuesday morning, make my way to the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru where I am showered in coffee and chocolate-sprinkle donuts, and eventually end up at the CHIRP studios to play music for you and our myriad listeners from 6-9am.

2) I spend at least a few hours a week searching for new music from kickass women in the music world for Girl Power Hour (on air 8-9am on Tuesdays) where I talk about all of the things that women and girl power allies are doing in the world and the music they're making. I also keep up this Girl Power Hour playlist that you can tune into any time to find new girl power tunes.

3) I spend a few more hours of my week going to shows, reading blogs, and asking for recommendations for local, Chicago bands, so that I can spend more hours getting in touch with up and coming artists and interview them for the CHIRP Podcast! So far I've interviewed nineteen bands and set up interviews with a few dozen more. I even produce the interviews myself! You can listen to those here! 

4) I help wrangle a wonderful group of interviewers, including training new people on how to chat with artists, record those conversations, and produce great podcasts from them. People get degrees in how to build podcasts, and we offer that training for free to our volunteers, because we believe in supporting people to produce media.

I devote a lot of time, effort, energy, and love to the station. All of that adds up and amplifies, and my efforts combined with the efforts of all the volunteers here are slowly building a low-power FM tower that will let us broadcast over terrestrial airwaves into the ears of the people of Chicago! It's a big deal.

This year I've set a bigger, better goal of raising $500 dollars for the station. If you're a fan of music, independent media, podcasts, volunteerism, or ME, then i'm asking you to conribute to this goal whether it's $5, $50, or hell the whole $500. Donors get a link to a super secret donors-only playlist, and if I reach my goal this drive, I will also mail SUPER EXCITING SWAG BAGS (zine! pins! super-cute photos of my cat!) to everyone who donates.
