Hello friends and music lovers!

Depending on how you know me, you may or may not know my connection to music and how I got involved with this outstanding community radio station. It started in high school, when my love of new sounds compelled me to craft bespoke mixtapes for my friends. In college, I helped program and promote live shows, and from then on I always tried to stay in the 'scene'. Even when I moved to DC, I was able to keep in touch with Chicago life and Chicago music through a brand new, internet-streaming radio station, chirpradio.org. Since my return, it has been a pleasure to contribute to such a vital organization and to work with so many creative people in our community.

The Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) was founded 10 years ago to showcase local music, arts, and culture. It is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that streams local, independent, and eclectic artists commercial-free nearly 24 hours a day. Last Fall, we began broadcasting over the air at 107.1 from our studios on the North side. This is the result of tremendous and pioneering efforts to lobby for a low-power FM signal, identify a feasable site in the city to build a radio tower, and mobilize around 250 volunteers to spread the word. 

I do my part because of what CHIRP has done for me. It kept me connected to the community that inspires me. It filled up my calendar with shows, trivia nights, record fairs, street festivals, and hours behind a mixing board. It introduced me to so many new friends and fellow music nerds! And the great thing is it can do that for anybody who is interested in getting involved. 

So there's two ways I'm asking for your support: 1. check out what we do - either streaming, on the air, or out in the city; and 2. consider donating what you can to help keep us going. Like any nonprofit arts organization, we need patrons - regular subscribers to help ensure that we can fulfill our mission for the next 10 years. We also need support to build strong, independent media in Chicago.
