It's amazing to look back and how far we've come. It's amazing to think that initially, we weren't planning on broadcasting in any way until we had a license and a tower. Some smarty pants (lost to time?) had the idea that we should launch via streaming to get the ball rolling and to build awareness of who we are and what we are trying to do. And it could only help fundraising, right? We launched out stream in January, 2010 and I had just signed on as a volunteer.

Streaming has allowed us to reach every corner of the globe and have listeners, fans, and supporters in almost every country. Streaming will always be how I began my DJ career and will be how far-flung family and friends were able to check in with me and connect. It will always be near and dear to my heart.

Cut to the present and CHIRP has been broadcasting at 107.1 FM for about five months now. We will always stream, but now we've fulfilled the promise of the initial diective that gave birth to our organization...we are promoting and supporting the Chicago music scene in our very own community, neighborhood, and city. For us, by us. It's what you asked for, and we are elated to deliver it.

Progress brings change and change brings expense, unfortunately. The brodacast has added significant expense to our mission but it is one that we will not abandon. In fact, we are looking to expand CHIRP's visibility within the local scene and beyond. We have value and we want everyone to know about it.
