1 Year of FM Radio Bliss!

Hi Friends!

As many of you know, I have been volunteering for CHIRP Radio for about 2 years now.  CHIRP is the Chicago Independent Radio Project and we are a nonprofit, listener-supported, volunteer-driven community radio station.  We are on the air 18 hours a day from (6AM-12AM) to provide you with the best independent, local, and lesser-known music commerical-free! We also host a quarterly storytelling event called The First Time, a monthly concert series at the Whistler, and we put on 2 record fairs a year, one at Plumber's Hall every April, and one at Pitchfork Music Festival.  CHIRP began streaming online in 2010 and began broadcasting on 107.1 FM out in the Northcenter neighborhood nearly a year ago on October 2017.  This new low-power broadcast signal has expanded our audience and given us more legitimacy as a "real" radio radio.  This exciting new chapter for the station has also increased our expenses; maintaining the new broadcast tower adds an additional $15,000 a year in expenses and rent, utilities, and the cost of other station equipment and supplies is continuing to increase.

Over the past 2 years, CHIRP has become an important part of my life.  I love working in the music department to review albums to add to our weekly rotation, tabling various concerts and festivals throughout the city to promote the station, and fundraising to ensure the station can remain on the air to continue to provide the best independent and local music that you, the listener, will not hear anywhere else.  Through CHIRP, I have discovered tons of great new music and feel way more connected to the Chicago scene.  I have also made plenty of new friends and will most likely continue to do so as CHIRP boasts over 250 dedicated volunteers who share a passion for community radio.  CHIRP definitely holds a special place in my heart and I hope that it will have a similar impact on anyone I introduce to the station through this page.

If you are unfamilar with the station, I ask that you give us a quick listen either on 107.1 FM or online at chirpradio.org.  If you like what you hear, please consider giving us a small donation of $5-$10 to help us reach our 10-day fundraising goal of $25,000.  No donation is too small!  Thank you so much for your support!

Peace, Love, and Community Radio,

Eric
