It's that time of year again!  Time to support local, independent, volunteer-driven community radio to ensure that we can stay on the air to continue providing you, the listener, with the best local and independent music of all genres to get you through your commute, your workday, your workout, or just relaxing at home at the end of a long day.  Community radio is so important because it provides an alternative to the constant commercials and homogenized programming on commerical radio.  We are live and local 18-21 hours a day, 7 days a week and dedicated to providing an outlet for all of the music you won't hear anywhere else!   At the end of the day, we are just a group of over 200 passionate music lovers volunteering our time to share the love with you!

CHIRP is more than just a radio station.  We produce plenty of off-air content as well including a blog and a podcast. We also host a record fair every May at Plumber's Hall and another one in July at Pitchfork.  Finally, we put on a live storytelling show, The First Time, on a quarterly basis. 

I have been involved with CHIRP for 3 years now and it has become an important part of my life!  I am primarily involved in the music department where I typically review between 75-100 new albums to add to rotation each year.  I also help out with the annual record fair and general outreach by attending various concerts and festivals to promote the station and connect with fellow music lovers.  CHIRP is a natural outlet for me to share my passion for music with others and I have made many friends and have had plenty of opportunities to increase my involvement in the music industry through this volunteerism.

In order to continue to be able to provide a great commerical-free listener experience we need your help.  We need to raise $25,000 over the next 2 weeks to ensure that we can continue to pay our bills (rent, utilities, transmitter maintenance, etc) and be a presence in the Chicago music scene for years to come.  In October of this year, we will celebrate 2 years on the 107.1 FM frequency and in January, we will celebrate 10 years of streaming!  Let's keep this going and prove we are just getting started!
