For those of you who do not know, I have been volunteering for CHIRP Radio, a volunteer-driven, listener supported, commercial-free community radio station for the past 4 years. I have primarily been involved in the Music Department by reviewing a few albums a week to add to the station’s robust weekly rotation and Outreach by tabling various concerts, festivals, and other events to distribute swag and spread the word about the station. I also became a DJ this year, hosting my own overnight show on Fridays from Midnight-2:00AM.
2020 was supposed to be a banner year for CHIRP. This year is the station’s 10th anniversary and we planned to have various celebrations throughout the year along with expanding our annual Record Fair in May. Unfortunately, COVID-19 completely decimated these plans and we have had to come up with new ways to keep the station afloat from both a financial and an operational standpoint.
The shelter in place lockdown began in the middle of our Spring Fundraising Drive. We were forced to cancel the Record Fair and the cancellation of Pitchfork caused us to miss out on our second record fair at the festival. Despite this significant loss of revenue and the challenges of social distancing, we have persisted and remain committed to providing you with live and local radio 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. We hope that our DJ’s familiar voices and the station’s commitment to providing you with the best local and independent music have been a source of comfort to you doing these uncertain times.
We understand that COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the economy and many people are struggling right now. If this is your situation, please disregard my upcoming request and take care of yourself first. However, if your financial situation remains stable and you enjoy our programming, a small donation (even just $5 to $10) would be greatly appreciated! Our goal is to raise $12,000 by September 23rd and I am hoping to personally raise $200. Thanks so much for your support!
Peace, love, and community radio,
Eric
We've been here for you throughout this challenging year - now, we need you to be here for us!
This wasn't how we anticipated spending our tenth anniversary year. Instead of parties and open studio events, we've spent the last six months, one DJ at a time in a carefully disinfected studio, keeping you connected while we all worked to stay safe. We've worked hard to amplify the voices of local artists who can't play live and local venues who were first to close, and to help you feel less alone at a time when it's easy to feel distant from your community.
But we've been hanging in there, and we hope you have too. We're still here every single day, live and local, commercial-free, with great music brought to you by true music fans. If you believe in this work, and if you're able, we hope you'll support the station with a gift today.
If you would like to become a sustaining member by making a recurring donation (monthly or quarterly), or if you want to select a thank you gift, please visit CHIRP's main donation page to make your contribution (and don’t forget to enter the name of the CHIRP Volunteer or DJ in the “How did you hear about CHIRP” section so they can receive credit for your gift).
