Hello!

For those of you who are not familiar, I have been volunteering for the Chicago Independent Radio Project (CHIRP) for the past seven years.  CHIRP is an independent, volunteer-run, community radio station dedicated to providing Chicago and beyond with the best local and independent music from all genres and eras.  I have volunteered in many different capacities during my time with the station including screening and reviewing new albums for the music department, tabling various shows and festivals, and helping out with our semiannual record fairs.  Right now I am currently a DJ hosting Liberation Frequency on Friday evenings from 8-10.  I also serve as an Assistant Music Director.  I have increased my involvement with the station every year since I began volunteering and have no plans of slowing down anytime soon!  I believe deeply in the importance of live and local community radio that provides a much needed outlet for underexposed local and independent artists.

As I stated before, CHIRP plays an exceptionally wide variety of music that you won’t hear on any other radio station.  When I am on the air, it is perfectly normal for me to play punk, metal, electronic, hip hop, R&B, folk, blues, and jazz all within the same 2 hour show!  Our station is fun, unpredictable, and exciting to listen to.  Our DJs are a dedicated group of musical lovers with very distinct and unique tastes.  

We are able to provide this unique programming because we are not bound to corporate advertisers. We rely heavily on donations from listeners like you to help us pay our rent, utilities, streaming costs, transmitter maintenance, and various other expenses associated with running a radio station.  To help cover these expenses, we set a goal of raising $40,000 during our Fall 2023 fundraising drive.  My personal fundraising goal is $400, or 1% of the stationwide goal.  If you are a fan of live and local community radio, or just independent music in general, please consider making a donation to CHIRP if you are financially able to.  No donation is too small- even $10 or $20 goes a long way and is greatly appreciated!
