If you know me, chances are that you already know about my involvement in CHIRP radio, and what it means to me, but on the off chance you don’t, here’s the scoop:

CHIRP Radio is an independent music radio station here in Chicago whose mission is to provide eclectic and commercial-free radio that also uplifts the voices of local, underrepresented, and underplayed artists. Being ‘independent” means we don’t play any commercials and we get to play the music we want, but it also means that over ⅔ of our operating budget comes directly from our listeners, which is why your support is crucial to our work. 

I’ve been volunteering with CHIRP Radio since I moved to Chicago in 2018, and have been hosting a weekly radio show for almost as long. Over the years, CHIRP has meant different things to me, including a way to discover my new city, a way to connect with other music lovers, a way to regain my sanity as a new mother, and a tether to normalcy during a global pandemic. CHIRP is unlike any other radio station that I’ve listened to in that it is staffed by over 200 volunteers from various backgrounds that are connected by a love for music, and the City of Chicago. We play all kinds of music across all kinds of genres, and new listeners often quickly become devoted fans.

I’ve had listeners tell me that I’m their favorite radio DJ (say whaaaaa?!) and that I’ve exposed them to some of their new favorite artists. While I’m incredibly flattered by the comments, I like to think it’s a reflection of the amount of love and hard work I put into planning my show every week. It’s an honor and privilege to do what I do, and I’m so happy that I can positively impact the lives of others.

This Spring, I'm trying to raise $500 on behalf of CHIRP Radio. Since I believe in what we do so much, and I'm able, I will personally match up to $250 in donations made in my name during the Spring pledge drive. I appreciate any and all donations.
