If you know me, chances are that you already know about my involvement in CHIRP radio, and what it means to me, but on the off chance you don’t, here’s the scoop:
I’ve been volunteering with CHIRP Radio since I moved to Chicago in 2018, and have been hosting a weekly radio show for almost as long. Over the years, CHIRP has meant different things to me, including a way to discover my new city, a way to connect with other music lovers, a way to regain my sanity as a new mother, and a tether to normalcy during a global pandemic. CHIRP is unlike any other radio station that I’ve listened to in that it is staffed by over 200 volunteers from various backgrounds that are connected by a love for music, and the City of Chicago. We play all kinds of music across all kinds of genres, and new listeners often quickly become devoted fans.
This Spring, I'm trying to raise $500 on behalf of CHIRP Radio. Even your $1 donation tells me that you see me and you care; when I see your donation pop up, trust me when I tell you that it feels like getting a little high-five.
Update: I've increased my fundraising goal to $800. Thank you for your incredible support!
For the SECOND time, I'm offering something special to folks who pledge $100 or more in my name: tell me your favorite musician or artist, and I'll do a small (~ 5" x 7") ink and watercolor drawing and send it to you in the mail. I've included sample images of other artists I've drawn below (seen here: Anna Calvi, Dawn Richard, Fever Ray, Nick Cave, Siouxsie Sioux and Saul Williams). This is a totally unique offering from me, and I can't wait to make a wonky little drawing for you and pop it in the mail!
If you're reading this, love to you, and let's do this thing in support of independent voices!
It's hard to believe that it's been a decade and a half since we launched the station! Some things have changed a lot, but what's stayed the same is our commitment to bringing you live, local, commercial-free music programming lovingly curated by our DJs every single day, plus dozens of events that showcase our city's diverse music, arts and cultural scenes.
In 2025 we're celebrating our history while looking to the future, including rebuilding our website and mobile app into a sleek integrated web app that we know you'll love.
We are a truly independent, listener-supported station. Your generosity has helped us thrive over the past fifteen years, and will keep us going for decades to come.
IMPORTANT: If you would like to become a sustaining member by making a recurring donation (monthly or quarterly), or if you want to select a thank you gift, please visit chirpradio.org/donatenow to make your contribution (and to give in support of the person making this post, be sure to type their full name in the "volunteer to credit" section so they can receive credit for your gift).
