Whether you know me personally or through my on-air show every Saturday at 9pm CST, I really appreciate that you are curious about what we do at CHIRP and how you can support us during our fundraiser, which by the way happens only twice a year.

CHIRP is a truly a listener-supported, volunteer-driven station and it is due to the generosity of fans and supporters like you that we keep bringing local artists, new music, and Chicago happenings to Chicago and beyond. I am always proud to be a part of this organization and represent Chicago's independent community radio station. In 2011, I witnessed my favorite radio station in the Philippines shut down due to financial constraints. Their unique programming, supporting plenty of independent artists, was not translating to the ratings and ad revenues that they needed to survive. Many of us stood outside the building as they had their last show on-air and signed off with their legal ID for the very last time. I used to manage bands and go to that station constantly to connect, promote our band's music, and explore. Unbeknownst to them, I have memorized their legal ID and been secretly practicing to say it in front of a mirror when I was a teenager. And now here we are. (:

I am so thankful that CHIRP is listener-supported. I am grateful that CHIRP is sustainable without being beholden to corporations. I am delighted that we get to play diverse music and even put our personalities as DJs in the mix. Since hosting my radio show for CHIRP in September 2016, I have been keeping an album of email messages, tweets, and DMs of CHIRP listeners who have been supporting us through listening to my show.
